However, a well executed fake punt kept the drive alive and set up a Brian Adams completion to Jalen Delaney, who streaked right across the field for a touchdown to tie the score. late in the 2nd quarter. Before the fans could sit down, Carver returned the kickoff for a TD and 24-16 lead. The Spartans’ Zahir Nichols returned serve, carrying the kickoff to the Carver 11. Brian Adams hit Zahir Nichols with a pass over the middle, where Nichols spun and raced for a 54-yard TD. After Carver intercepted near the end zone and began driving, Spartan Neriyan Brown made a beautiful interception and returned it to the 41.
In the 4th quarter, punts and penalty flags were abundant. Carver appeared to put the game away with a touchdown with 2:09 remaining. The Spartans answered with an Adams 23-yard pass to Zahir Nichols, a 12-yard pass to Evan Murphy, and a 4th down 26-yard pass to Murphy to set up an Adams keeper for a TD and the final 36-29 score.
