With its Region championship and getting the number 1 seed, the boys varsity soccer team hosted a Home tournament game. Its first time hosting in over 30 years.
The North Springs High Boys Varsity Soccer team playing in its 4th first round state soccer tournament game in 5 years, finally broke through with a 6-2 victory over Woodland (Cartersville).
North Springs took a 1-0 lead at 38.49 with Jeovani Diaz starting the scoring.
The Wildcats came back 5 minutes later and scored 2 goals in a 3 minute period to take a 2-1 lead and things were not going the Spartan way.
At the 12:57 left in the half the Wildcats committed a foul in the box giving Hasan Hammid a chance to tie the score on a PK.
As the 1st half was winding down Andrew Wright (assisted by Anthony Benitez) took a ball down the left side beating the defense and with 2:14 to play whipped a shot by the keeper to give the Spartans a 3-2 lead at half.
The 2nd half saw North Springs take charge. The Wildcats were not given any opportunity to get any shots on goal while the Spartans went on a frenzy with opportunities, scoring 4 times in the half.
Anthony Benitez (assist Andrew Wright) started it off by scoring on a running header at 25:34 to up the lead 4-2.
Andrew Wright got on a roll 10 minutes later scoring 2 more goals (1st assist Mario Ruiz and 2nd by Ben Salpeter)(hat trick for the night) to up the score to 6-2.
Diego Lopez and Seth Kaminsky combined in goal for win.
With the win the Spartans advanced to the 2nd round of State Soccer playoff (Sweet 16). This is first time since 1979 that a boys soccer team has played in the Sweet 16 level.
