Cass High took advantage of two scoring opportunities in the 1st half to take a shocking 2-0 lead over the Spartans.
The Colonels shocked North Springs when they scored in less than 3 minutes from the opening kick off. The score came off a free kick from just outside the box directly in front of the goal. The Spartans had it lined up to defend but the shot was low and a line drive just out of the reach of the Spartan goalie, giving Cass a 1-0.
North Springs was dominating play, moving the ball into the Colonels end of the field but just could not put together the right combination of passes and plays to get a shot pass the Cass Keeper who had 9 saves in the 1st half.
North Springs was turning away the Colonels as they tried to push the ball across into the Spartans terrority and with 8:33 remaining in the half was able to once again find a hole in the Spartan defense to score and take a 2-0 lead.
North Springs continued to battle , but they continued to squander opportunities to score. Finally with 2:19 left in the first half Simon Ben-Moshe received a pass from Adrian Gonzalez and stuck in the goal by the Cass Keeper to cut the score in half.
The first half ended 2-1 in Cass favor. North Springs lead in shot on goal 4-1 (11-3) and took 7 corners to 0 for Cass but none lead to scores.
The 2nd half saw a much more determined Spartan team come out and continued to dominate play but the Colonels used all their powers of their keeper to repel the Spartans.
The Spartans were firing shots left and right against the Cass defense but none would hit their target. Again North Springs lead in shots on goal 9-1 (18-2) and again lead in corners 8-2.
Finally as the clock was winding down and the clock was working against the Spartan, North Springs sent a barrage of shots on goal against the Cass defense and its keeper, a shot, a keeper block, a shot, rebounded out, a shot, a block, a follow up shot and this time it found the hole and into the goal it went and the Spartans had tied the game up with 2:19 to play.
Final score a hard earned 2-2 tie.
